Madam,
Last week many among us who signed here sent an open appeal to you requesting you to personally initiate the process of opening a dialogue with the Maoists as that, in our opinion, was the only way out to resolve differences with those who are the sons and daughters of our soil, and not our enemies. We also emphasized that the issue was not at all a law-and-order problem, but rooted in socio-economic deprivation and hence deserved a totally different kind of solution.

Once again, yet another act of impunity of the supposed guardians of law. This time it is not in the adivasi regions of Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Jangal Mahal etc. This time it is in the state of Kerala where there is already a climate of deliberate mass hysteria created by the state ably supported by a jingoist, conniving media.

To The Chief Minster, Government of West Bengal
Madam,
For several years at a stretch the people of Jungle Mahal in West Bengal have been suffering persecution, humiliation and indignities in the hands of the state forces and armed bullies financed by the ruling parties. There have been brutalities perpetrated by the police, joint forces and the CPM-sponsored goons against the people as a result of which many adivasis have died, many have been killed in fake encounters, even while they were asleep, many have been injured, hundreds of houses have been raided, looted and ...

It is with immense grief that the Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners (CRPP) would share the demise of Gurusharan Singh. Apart from all other things which many of the readers might already know about him, he was for us, at CRPP, the honorary president of the committee, a spirited fighter who was always a source of strength and support. What was so disarming about Gurusharanji was his unflinching commitment to the people that too, to the oppressed, discriminated and exploited.
